Approaching Grenland from Oslo on Highway 32 via Sande, the first place you come to is the small forest community of Siljan. Siljan is a separate township with a population of 2,400. The village centre is home to the school, municipal office and grocery store.
Siljan offers three cycle routes of various lengths: 25 km, 35 km and 100 km. Solvika is an excellent starting point for all three, with ample parking.
The routes cover a mixture of agricultural countryside, forest and wilderness. Don’t forget your swimming costume and fishing rod, in case you’re tempted to take a dip or try your luck in one of the many lakes.
Auen Urtegård is one of Siljan’s biggest tourist attractions. Many different herbs are grown here, and the farm produces its very own Siljan seasoning. It also hosts concerts and is a great place to stay.
